Narrabeen

narrabeen2.jpgNarrabeen is a beachside suburb in the Northern Beaches of Sydney, 23 kilometres North-East of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of Warringah Council.  Narrabeen is an established residential area, with some commercial areas along Pittwater Road. Narrabeen is thought to be named from an Aboriginal word meaning ‘many swans’.

Settlement of the area dates from 1815, although population was minimal until the 1880s. Significant development occurred in the post-war years and population continues to increase today as a result of new developments in the area.

Major features of the area include Narrabeen Lakes, Narrabeen Lagoon, Narrabeen Beach, North Narrabeen Beach, Birdwood Park, Jamieson Park, Narrabean Lions Park, Narrabeen Shopping Centre and two schools.
